Senior Sunday - Glimpses of Memory
Glenna Evans
Upon moving into an 1890 Victorian, photographer Glenna Evans discovered many forgotten treasures. She found old encyclopedias and medical books as well as windows, doors and screens. Each item was abandoned and its value and beauty was masked by layers of dust. Evans photographs her discoveries and prints onto a plastic substrate. The ink is then transferred onto wet, handmade plaster on board to reveal a fresco. Glenna Evans will discuss her project Glimpses of Memory and the frescoes themselves that have a tactile, aged and worn character. RSVP by February 1 to the Griffin. For all Senior Sundays admission is FREE for seniors and their friends. Sponsored by Salter Healthcare, Winning Farm, and New Horizons.

February 11, 2010 5:30 - 7PM
Gallery Talk At the Griffin's Digital Silver Gallery ay 11 Brighton St. in Belmont
Photographer Jonathan Spath discusses his exhibit Romancing tone. A high school Math teacher, Jonathan blends two areas of deep personal interest - Math and Photography in highly detailed abstract configurations of sea and granite from Cape Ann. Where we may see aspects of nature, he sees underlying mathematical theory. His interest is the unifying perspective between everyday objects and the surrounding space.
FREE and open to the public.

Saturday, February 20, 10 AM to Noon
Cyanotype Demonstration and Studio Visit
with Jesseca Ferguson
Fort Point Studios, Boston

As photography becomes increasingly digital, many photographers are turning to techniques and processes from the dawn of the medium to reinvent their image making. Jesseca Ferguson has been working with so-called "antiquarian" photo processes since 1990. In this demonstration, Ferguson prints images from her large format pinhole negatives on artists' paper using cyanotype, an iron-based, hand-applied photo process invented in 1842. Handouts provide further information for those photographers interested in pursing cyanotype on their own.

Ferguson's pinhole photographs and collaged "photo objects" have been exhibited in the United States and Europe and are in a number of public collections, including Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard University's Fogg Museum, Bibliotheque nationale de France in Paris, the Museet for Fotokunst in Denmark; and Muzeum Historii Fotografii in Poland. Ferguson teaches at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

The workshop is limited to 10 people. Fee is $30
The address of the studio will be sent with enrollment. Please RSVP to the Griffin, 781-729-1158.

Sunday, March 14, 3 PM
Senior Sunday - Adventure Photographer
James R. Holland
As author and former photography intern and contract photographer for National Geographic James R. Holland puts it when discussing his book, "Adventure Photographer is the memoir of a journey from the hills of the Ozark Mountains to the Marble Halls of National Geographic's Washington, DC headquarters and the world beyond. Enjoy Mr. Holland discuss his photography and experiences that as he says "are the stuff that dreams are made of" - his dreams in particular. RSVP by March 1 to the Griffin. For all Senior Sundays admission is FREE for seniors and their friends. Sponsored by Salter Healthcare, Winning Farm, and New Horizons.
