Award-winning artist, Claire Rosen will share her creative and production workflow for her elaborate photographic constructions. Rosen investigates universal truths while appealing to our desire for fantasy by creating worlds of anthropomorphic animals from elephants to owls to starfish, solitary heroines, and curious still lives all evoking the aesthetics of classical master painting, frequently referencing the Victorian Era with its fascination of the natural world and ideals of beauty. The talk will illustrate her philosophies on artistic lifestyle and process which are the subject of Claire’s first educational book, IMAGINARIUM; The Process Behind the Pictures. Claire has been recognized twice on the Forbes “30 Brightest under 30” list for Art & Design. Her work has also received recognition from Communication Arts, IPA, Graphis, PDN and featured in Fast Company, The Guardian, NPR, Refinery29, Slate and WPO.
Claire Rosen is an award-winning artist whose elaborate tableaux constructions often feature anthropomorphic animals or solitary heroines, evoking the aesthetics of classical painting from the Pre-Raphaelite, Romantic, and Gothic periods, frequently referencing the Victorian Era with its fascination of the natural world and ideals of beauty. The whimsical images explore universal themes of dreams, fairy tales and mythology to visually symbolize the many facets of the human condition.
Claire earned a place on the Forbes “30 Brightest under 30” list for Art & Design (2012 & 2013) . Her work has also received recognition from Aesthetica, Communication Arts, IPA, Graphis, PDN, People’s Choice Photoville Fence, Photolucida Critical Mass, and Prix de la Photographie. Her work has been featured in Beautiful/Decay, Complex Art+Design, Creative Quarterly, Der Greif, Direct Art, Faded + Blurred, Fast Company, featureshoot, The Guardian, Hi Fructose Magazine, Juxtapoz, NPR Weekend Edition, Refinery29, Slate Magazine and The WPO. Claire has been widely exhibited from New York to Seoul including a number of juried shows at the Annenberg Space for Photography, Aperture Gallery, CMCA, MOPLA, with five consecutive years on the Photoville Fence.
In addition, Claire has lectured about the creative process around the world, her book, IMAGINARIUM: The Process Behind the Pictures, covers the artistic practice of photography. Claire is a brand ambassador for Dynalite, FujiFilm USA, Hahnemühle USA and liveBooks. Claire graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2006 with a BFA in photography. She received a liberal arts degree from Bard College at Simon’s Rock in 2003.
