RICARDO BARRETO

Ricardo Barreto has been the Director of the UrbanArts Institute at Massachusetts College of Art since early 2000. As an independent not-for-profit organization with an alliance with MassArt, UrbanArts manages public art projects from community development, artist selection, and project administration.

The organization also initiates academic projects, meetings and symposia through the College. UrbanArts celebrates its 25th Anniversary in 2005. The UrbanArts artist database and registry includes over 2,000 artists and is the only publicly accessible registry in the region.

Prior to his position with UrbanArts, Mr. Barreto also served as the Program Officer for Organizations and Program Coordinator for Individual Artists from 1994-2000 at the Massachusetts Cultural Council and was the Program Coordinator for the Central Artery/Tunnel Project Arts Program in Boston from 1993-1994. He has extensive experience as a freelance consultant, panel member and curator.

Current board memberships include the Massachusetts Foundation for Humanities, the Arts Services Coalition and the Friends of Fort Point Channel. He received his master of arts in art history, and a B.A. in art history from Oberlin College.

JEN BEKMAN

Jen Bekman owns Jen Bekman Gallery NY, writes a blog called Personism and is the founder of the international photo competition, Hey, Hot Shot! Her latest endeavor is 20×200, a place to buy editioned prints and photos at ridiculously affordable prices.

Jen Bekman Projects, the gallery, its exhibitions and Jen herself have been featured in dozens of publications including The New York Times, Harper's, Art in America, Foam, Businessweek, Dwell, Der Spiegel and Le Monde.

Jen has been a guest lecturer at The School of Visual Arts and the Photographic Resource Center & Boston University, served as a reviewer at Center's Review Santa Fe and was named an Innovator of the Year by American Photo.

This year she's jurying the Singular Image Prize for Center and in May she'll be honored with the Rising Star Award from the Griffin Museum. Her writing has appeared in GOOD Magazine and photo-eye Booklist.

BRIAN CLAMP

In 2000, after completing a Master of Arts degree in Critical Studies in Modern Art at Columbia University, Brian Clamp opened ClampArt, a gallery in Chelsea specializing in modern and contemporary art with an emphasis on photography. With a shrewd feel for what is cutting edge and exciting, Clamp mounts six to eight exhibitions per year featuring the work of emerging and mid-career photographers.

Aside from exhibitions in his gallery, Clamp has curated photography shows at venues throughout the United States, and has reviewed photographers' portfolios on dozens of panels over the past several years. Clamp is the author of 14 publications on American art to date, and also occasionally contributes written work to various art periodicals.

ALISON COLLINS

Alison Colins is the co-founder and co-director of The Iris Gallery with her husband, Fred. Alison and Fred Collins both attended art school, majoring in photography, and have had many years of experience in commercial and editorial photography as well as a lifetime of appreciation for fine art photography. The Iris Gallery exhibits fine art photography by established and emerging photographers.

The Iris Gallery was opened in May 2004 on Railroad Street, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Located in the heart of the Berkshires, an area historically known for art, music and dance, the gallery continues to introduce an array of beautiful and stimulating fine art photography, representing a renowned, international, group of artists.

The mission of the gallery is to give visual voice to exceptional photographic imagery and to offer an environment where visitors and clients can always come to view the finest in contemporary expression.

In the summer of 2007, the gallery expanded to Boston, bringing this exceptional work to 70 Charles Street, in the Meeting House, in Tesorino, located at the corner of Mt Vernon St. in the Beacon Hill section.

ED DOOKS

Ed Dooks' career spans over 40 years working as a News Photographer. He has been associated with the National Press Photographers Foundation either as a board member or an officer since 1979. He has also been associated with the National Press Photographers Association as the Regional Director from 1969-1972, as the Associate Director from 1973-1974 and as the National Treasurer from 1978-1982.

Some of his career highlights include photographing:

• John F. Kennedy returning to Boston after winning the nomination for President of the United States.
• -Boston's reaction to the assassination of John F. Kennedy
• -Every New Hampshire Primary since 1964
• -Anti-Viet Nam War rallies and riots in Boston
• Anti-busing in Boston. For three years assigned to South Boston High School for school opening. Only photographer (still or TV) ever to ride a school bus to South Boston High School during the busing days.
• Photographed the first buses to carry METCO students to the suburbs. Subsequent stories on METCO Program.
• -New England pool photographer for Queen Elizabeth's visit to Boston in 1976.
• -Photographed Mayor Flynn's visit to Ireland
• -Photographed the parents of Christa McCauliffe during the launch of the Challenger Shuttle
• -Covered Democratic National Convention, Red Sox World Series and Patriots Championships, and Boston Marathon

KATHERINE HENNESSY

Katherine Hennessy is a photo representative, a marketing consultant, a photo producer & a jack of “many” trades within the photography industry. Over the last five years, Katherine has built a consulting/representation company that services a myriad of businesses. Her current roster of photographers includes six photographers. Prior to the creation of Kate & Company, she spent eight years with Arnold Communications as the VP, Director of Art Production managing a department committed to the excellence of artistic production, focused creative execution, balanced and finessed budgets and thorough appreciation of the application of copyright law for printed commercial execution. Her years at Arnold focused on the supervision of a wide variety of clients’ artistic print production ranging from Volkswagen of NA, Talbots, American Legacy Foundation, Fidelity Investments, McDonald’s, Royal Caribbean, Citizens Bank and more. Before joining Arnold in 1995, Katherine had spent many years producing work for McCann Erickson, NY in their International, General and Direct Groups as well as Scali, McCabe, Sloves in New York City.

Katherine holds a BS dual degree in advertising design and photography from Syracuse University. She has sat on national art production boards for the AAAA’s, judged shows and sat on panels for Photo District News, ASMP National, ASMP NE, ASMP CT and CIPNE. As a wife, a mother of three children, a sports coach, a school committee member, an active member of her church and a businesswoman, Katherine has mastered a balance of her multiple facets that involve her passions for family life, community & business.

Jill Enfield is one of this country's most experienced and respected handcoloring artists; is a fine art, editorial and commercial photographer.  She has taught handcoloring and non-silver techniques at Parsons School of Design, The New School, Fashion Institute of Technology, New York University , Long Island University and the International Center of Photography in New York , as well as in workshops throughout the USA and Europe .  Her work is in the collections of RJ Reynolds Co., Southeast Banking Corp., Museo de Arte Moderno de Mediellin in Colombia , The Boca Raton Museum of Art and Hotel Parisi in LaJolla. 

Jill's commercial clients include, Fortune Magazine, Kodak, Hasselblad, Nikon, Penguin Putnam, Inc.,  St. Martin 's Press, LIFE, Vassarette Lingerie, National Geographic, The New York Times Magazine, American Heritage Magazine, AT&T, Johnson & Johnson, Woman's Day Magazine and many others. 

Her personal work has appeared in such publications as Camera Art's, Hasselblad's FORUM Magazine, Nikon World, Camera & Darkroom Techniques, Archive Books, Step by Step, Shutterbug, Popular Photography, Digital Camera and ZOOM. 

Jill's book on non-silver techniques titled: Photo Imaging: A Complete Guide to Alternative Processes published by Watson-Guptill in November 2002, won the Golden Light Award for Best Technical Book of 2002 through the Maine Photographic Workshop and is already in its second printing. In May 2003, Jill's web-site was awarded one of the "25 Best Web-sites" by Photo District News Magazine.

Jill has had two one-woman shows in 2003. A lecture at the George Eastman House in Rochester, New York followed by an opening at Artisian Works Gallery in September, 2003. In December, 2003 her work can be seen at the Light Factory in Charlotte , NC . A workshop and lecture were included during the opening weekend.  

Nikon has honored Jill by featuring her on their web-site as a "Legend Behind The Lens" photographer as well as in their Full-Line product guide and issue of Nikon World.  Jill has also appeared on The Today Show Weekend Edition, New York One and The CBS Saturday Morning Edition as a spokesperson for www.takegreatpictures.com on several occasions.

BARBARA HITCHCOCK

Curator, Barbara Hitchcock joined Polaroid Corporation in the 1970s in a research and development capacity. An interest in photography, acquired while living in southern Japan where she bought a 35mm camera, brought her to Polaroid to test market-bound products and systems.

In 1978 Ms. Hitchcock joined Polaroid's international division where she coordinated all the photographic requirements of the subsidiary publicity departments. Appearing as a Polaroid spokesperson on national and international television/radio broadcasts, she promoted new Polaroid films and hardware.

Since 1982, Ms. Hitchcock has been responsible for the strategic marketing communications and program planning, development and execution of Polaroid's cultural activities. She acquired fine art photographs for Polaroid, and managed its multi-million dollar art collection and traveling exhibitions.

HENRY HORENSTEIN

Henry Horenstein is a photographer, author, and educator who published over 30 books for children (A Is For?) and adults including classic texts (Black and White Photography; A Basic Manual) and monographs (Creatures, Canine, Aquatics).

Mr. Horenstein is a professor at the Rhode Island School of Design. Horenstein's work has been exhibited Internationally and within the United States at venues such as Robert Klein Gallery, Boston, MA; Paul Kopeikin Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Sarah Morthland Gallery, New York, NY; Kathleen Ewing Gallery, Washington D.C.; Edward Carter Gallery, New York, NY; and John Cleary Gallery, Houston, TX.

Photographs by Henry Horenstein can be found in many public and private collections including Fidelity Investments, Boston, MA, Fogg Museum of Art, Cambridge, MA, High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA, Library of Congress, Washington D.C., Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX, Museum of the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI, and Polaroid Collection, Cambridge, MA.

KEITH JOHNSON

Keith Johnson received his MFA from RISD studying with Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind following a year at Visual Studies Workshop with Nathan Lyons. Ten years of teaching led to a move to the business side of photography completing an MBA in 1987.

He supports his fine art making as a consultant in the northeast and is on the summer faculty at Visual Studies Workshop, Maine Photographic Workshop, Jackson Hole Art Association and New England School of Photography.

Recent solo shows include CEPA Gallery, FotoFest, George Eastman House, and Panopticon in Boston, Nelson Hancock Gallery, Brooklyn, NY and Wall Space gallery in Seattle. Collections include RISD, George Eastman House, and Center for Creative Photography; he is a recipient of a Connecticut Commission on the Arts Fellowship, Artist in Residencies at Light Work and Visual Studies Workshop.

ARLETTE KAYAFAS

Arlette Kayafas is the founder and director of Gallery Kayafas in Boston. Her gallery features contemporary and modern photography.

LANCE KEIMIG

Lance Keimig is the curator of the Three Columns Gallery at Harvard University. He is an author of many articles on photography as well as an educator. Keimig has been teaching photography since 1997, at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, The Photographic Resource Center at Boston University, the New England School of Photography in Boston, and leads his own workshops in California, Texas, Massachusetts, and internationally.

In 2003 Keimig founded the Mono Lake Photo Workshops in California, to promote interest in the fragile ecosystem of the Eastern Sierra through photography. In 1997, he cofounded The Nocturnes Night Photography workshops in San Francisco with Tim Baskerville.

Keimig is a Pembroke, Masssachusetts based photographer who is best known for his night time photographs of the built environment. He is the curator of the exhibition Darkness, Darkness.

NAHEED KHAKI

Khaki Gallery was established in Wellesley, Massachusetts in November 2005, dedicated to exhibiting contemporary photography and art. Khaki, a photographer/artist for nearly three decades is a close observer of the contemporary photography scene.

Starting in June 2006, Khaki Gallery has been inviting selected groups of photographers and artists found through a continuous search for outstanding artists in Boston, New England and beyond. Several of the emerging artists have been found at open studios held throughout New England, including the School of Museum of Fine Arts, New England School of Photography and other top art institutions in the area.

Since its inception in 2005, Khaki Gallery represents 26 artists of which 18 are photographers. Our artists are selected purely on the basis of their originality and quality of their art and not as much for trends and politics. Their art represents a variety of unique styles which are representative of Khaki Gallery's aesthetic taste. As an artist/curator, Khaki works extensively with her artists to create original and unique exhibitions suited for Khaki Gallery.

JOHN MANNION
John Mannion is the Digital Imaging Manager at Light Work, Syracuse, NY

Since 1973, Light Work /Community Darkrooms has provided direct support to artists working in the mediums of photography and digital imaging through exhibitions, lectures, classes, artist residencies, publications and other related projects.

Each year LW/CD invites 12-15 artists to participate in its residency program. John Wesley Mannion has been the Digital Imaging Manager at LW/CD for the past five years. He has worked with the artists-in residence as well as other artists in the production of their digitally produced photographs. Allesandra Sanguinetti, Suzanne Opton, John Phafl, Neal Rantoul, Martin Weber, John Trotter, Dawood Bey, Deborah Willis, and Loni Graham are a few of the artists who have worked with John.

He earned his M.F.A. in photography from Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts where he also teaches. He has extensive experience in the production of fine art glycee prints. John also teaches Syracuse University's advanced digital photography classes as well as graduate classes in the Library School.

John has exhibited his own work nationally including the, Everson Museum of Art, Munson Williams Proctor Museum of Art, Syracuse University, and Penn State University.

John is willing to look at a variety of work in any stage of process.

NAVEED NOUR

Naveed Nour is co-founder of PhotoEmerge, an organization that helps promote emerging photographers. PhotoEmerge, founded in January 2007 by Nour, was developed from a desire to promote photography based art, encourage artistic collaboration, group critiques and sharing of pure artistic passion.

Naveed has a keen insight with over 20 years of photography and exhibition background. Nour received his BFA in Photography from the University of Ottawa in Canada and also earned his Masters of Management in e-Commerce from Cambridge College. He currently teaches the Business of Fine Art Photography at Mass College of Art and Design.

JESSICA OLDHAM

Jessica Oldham is a photo rep whose photo agency connects photo talent with the commercial, editorial and fine art communities worldwide.

Launched in 2005, Jessica Oldham/Representative has grown quickly in experience and reputation for its keen attention to the needs of artists and clients. The agency's photographers have been continuously recognized for their vision, integrity and professionalism. Oldham's ability to match talent with a select roster of clients has yielded the agency a commanding presence in the photo industry.

DIANA RABINOVICH

Diana Rabinovich is the Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder of DTR Modern Galleries, founded in New York with locations in Boston and Palm Beach. She oversees operations and communication between all DTR branches

Ms. Rabinovich holds an MS degree from Boston University in Arts Administration, and a BFA from Cornell University in Painting. She is a native of the former Soviet Union and is fluent in Russian, French and Italian.

BEVERLY SNOW

Beverly Snow is the current program director for the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown. She is a photographer and educator and the former manager of the Danforth Museum School in Framingham, MA.

BERNIE TOALE

Bernard Toale founded his gallery in Boston in 1992 with a large scale retrospective of photographer Sandy Skoglnad. He has continued to feature photography as a major component of his exhibition schedule ever since.

He currently represents the photographers David Hilliard, Abelardo Morell, Nicholas Nixon, Laura McPhee, Tahja Hholander, Sage Sohier, Deborah Bright, Penelope Umbrico and Mark Joseph. He collaborated with the Griffin Museum in jointly hosting the Martin Schoeller exhibition in 2007.

PAULA TOGNARELLI

Paula Tognarelli is the Executive Director and Curator of the Griffin Museum of Photography. The Griffin Museum of Photography's mission is to promote an appreciation of photographic art and a broader understanding of its visual, emotional and social impact.

Ms. Tognarelli holds a M.S. in Arts Administration from Boston University; is a graduate of the New England School of Photography (Applied Program) and is a current candidate for her Masters in Education at Lesley University as a visual arts teacher.

JILL WATERMAN

Jill Waterman is a fine art photographer, editor and educator based in New York City. Her new book, Night and Low Light Photography, published by Watson Guptill as part of the PDN Pros series, will be available in August 2008.

During daytime hours she works for Photo District News, as senior editor of the ASMP Bulletin, a contributing editor for PDNedu, and as an editor for many other projects with PDN Custom Media & Events.

Her photographic work includes: The New Year's Eve Project - an ongoing series since 1984, documenting this holiday in 22 international cities to date; The Whistlestop Series and Ghosts of Grand Central - photographs which reveal echoes of past in train stations across the United States.

DEBORAH WILLIS

Ms. Willis was named a Guggenheim Fellow and an Alphonse Fletcher Fellow in 2005, and also was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 2000. As curator of the landmark Smithsonian exhibition, Reflections in Black: A History of Black Photographers, 1840 to the Present, Ms. Willis presided over the largest exhibition ever conceived to explore the breadth and history of black photography in the U.S.

Her career spans over 30 years, not only as an art photographer but also as one of the nation's leading historians of African American photography. Currently Ms. Willis is a professor and Chair of the Photography Department at the Tisch School of Arts at New York University.
