Thirty years and still going strong.
In our first 30 years, the Griffin Museum of Photography has grown from that modest stone building by the pond in Winchester to an internationally known center for innovation and creativity in the photographic arts. We honor the craft of photography by exhibiting works ranging from legends in photography to contemporary visionary creative artists. As always, the Griffin is looking to the future of the medium, envisioning with great anticipation what lies ahead.
We started this year with a new Executive Director who brings a renewed vision to the Griffin. We met fellow members both online and in person, brought outstanding exhibitions to New England, held online and in person events, and offered creative educational opportunities throughout the year. We continue to grow our outreach globally by engaging with all who appreciate the best photography has to offer.
Next year will bring new exhibitions on climate change, family ties, and how create artists inhabit their world. We continue to celebrate our community through our Member’s Exhibitions, Photosynthesis student program and expanding our public art partnership with Photoville in Winchester.
You are part of who we are, and we have big dreams. With your financial support, the Griffin can provide more scholarships for our educational programs, underwrite compelling lectures, and provide in-person events both at the Griffin as well as around the country with offsite studio and museum visits.
Be a part of our success. Your year-end gift to the Griffin supports our exhibitions, programs, and education. Our plans include investing $150,000 in renovating and upgrading the museum including making much needed exterior upgrades including a new roof, updated landscaping and lighting. Last year, we replaced the floors in our Main Gallery, and we plan to replace the floors in the rest of the museum, as well as update our kitchen, restrooms, and add a library and storage space.
The Griffin is making these improvements as an investment in the future of photography and our artistic community. Your donation and financial generosity are integral to our success. As part of our creative community, you support a network of artists and administrators focused on the creative impact photography has on the world.
We are excited about our future. Without you, we cannot reach our goals. Please help us celebrate the wonderful art of photography with those artists who exhibit and share their vision of the medium with us.
Here is a look back at some of the images that hung on our walls in 2022. We are excited about what is to come and see you join us in 2023
