Hand Made Photobooks for Beginners – Weekend Workshop

June 2, 2018 - June 3, 2018

Hand Made Photobooks for Beginners – A Two-Day, Fully Hands-On Workshop
June 2 & 3, 10 am-4 pm

Join Rocio De Alba for a two-day workshop on photo bookmaking, geared for beginners. At the end of the weekend, you will have created a one of a kind photo book you can use as a portfolio for reviews or as a coffee table photo book. The first day of this session will entail a brief review of basic book making tools, the type of covers available (chipboard, corrugated sheets. The day will end in the creation of a photo book prototype. On Sunday each student will bring photographs from any given series or family photos to include in their books, and as a class, we will curate each image to create a cohesive narrative. The rest of the day will be spent on taking our prototypes, created from the day before, to complete a more polished handmade photo book that includes our curated images. The results will surprise any photo book enthusiast! Some of the topics and techniques we will cover are:

  • – A brief history of the photo book
  • – The benefits of making a one of a kind book as opposed to mass production from an Online kiosk
  • – Saddle Stich Binding
  • – Coptic Binding
  • – Accordion Books
  • – Meander books
Participants: Ages 18 and over, 6 minimum-10 maximum people
Cost: $275 per person ($250 for workshop; $25 for materials).
