Why Publish? This central question should be the first a photographer asks of themselves, for it will most certainly be asked by a publisher. The proliferation of photo books and the methods for production and distribution has gone through a seismic change in the past two decades. So too has the process of publishing. Schilt will share his insider view of this variable field.
Schilt Publishing, founded by Maarten Schilt, is a publishing house directed to high profile journalistic, documentary and art photography books. We select strictly what and whom we publish; they should fit well in our list and – very important – the collaboration should be a joy!
We are also the long-term publishing partner FotoFest, Houston. Ingram distributes our books in North America, Thames & Hudson in the rest of the world.
In 2014 Schilt Gallery opened, to provide an even broader basis in the international photography world. Since then dozens of shows were made with photographers from all over the world. In 2017 we merged the publishing house and the gallery into Schilt Publishing & Gallery. Maarten is also a portfolio reviewer at esteemed photo festivals all over the world.
All sales are final on products purchased through the Griffin Museum. Participant cancellation of a program/lecture/class will result in a full refund only if notice of cancellation is given at least 2 weeks before the date of the event.
