Artist Statement
Niagara Falls is one of the world’s truly awesome sites/sights; you can see it, hear it, feel it on your skin, feel it under your feet, and even smell it. The power of it is visually arresting, evoking feelings of the sublime. It is a Mecca for tourists, newly weds, thrill seekers, and artists of all kinds. I went to there as an artist in residence thinking I would photograph one thing and came away with a totally different experience. The Falls were compelling and spoke to me is a very seductive way. I guess that is how it works.
Suite Niagara was made during a month long residency at CEPA Gallery in Buffalo, NY. One month of shooting, in two, two week stints, allowed time to photograph daily and as a result I was able to re-examine and return to find out more. It was a grand experience being in that kind of dialog with the work as it led the way.
Thanks go to Nikon and Museo Fine art for their support and of course to CEPA that made it all possible. The prints are printed on Museo Silver Rag with Epson Ultrachrome ink by the artist. The suite is limited to 15 copies.
