Founders Day! Celebrate the Griffin

September 13 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm

On Saturday, September  13, the Griffin Museum invites you to celebrate our museum and Arthur  Griffin’s birthday and legacy with a vibrant, immersive day of photography and community. Begin at 9 AM with a lively Coffee & Conversation hosted by Executive Director Crista  Dix. From 11 AM to 4 PM, have a portrait made at the Portrait Studio (prints courtesy of Digital Silver Imaging) and peruse the PhotoBook Fair, featuring independent publishers, artists’ books, and Griffin Museum Press offerings. Celebrate our commitment to education from 5 to 8 PM with the Photography Atelier Reunion and Evening Slideshow, showcasing two decades of talent and creative vision.

Schedule of Events

9.00am – 11.00am
Coffee and Conversation Join other members in a morning group critique session with Executive Director, Crista Dix. Reserve your spot to present your work to the group, receiving valuable feedback and answers to questions you may have about how to further your creativity.

11am – 4pm
We are honored to have two local photographers, Angela Rowlings and Carlos Paronis create unique portraits for yourself, friends and family, or even the family pet. We are thrilled to be supported by Digital Silver Imaging and their on site mobile portrait studio. You can go home with the print and a digital file. The photographers and DSI are donating their talent and time as a fundraiser for the Griffin Museum. Each portrait will be a 20 minute session, with reservations suggested, but not required. 11am – 4pm
PhotoBook Fair – We love photobooks! We are so pleased to have Independent publishers, artists books and a Griffin Museum Press book table will be in the museum. Leah Abrahams, Elysabeth Cianci, Joshua Deaner, Ellen Feldman, Joe Greene, Suzi Grossman, McCall Hollister, Robert Kalman, Kay Kenny, Michael King, Fern Nesson, Lori Van Houten, Anna Leigh Clem, and Andrew MK Warren. Visiting us is also Gateways Projects — an initiative founded and directed by artist Shari Diamond to support the creation of artist books, photobooks, and zines. We are also pleased to have the artists of Soho Photo on hand to showcase their member photobooks.

5pm – 8pm
Photography Atelier Reunion – We celebrate the 40th Session of our portfolio development program, Atelier. This event is open to the public, featuring the works of past and current Atelier artists. Join us for this special event and spend time with other Atelier cohorts sharing in this milestone! We will also have a slideshow featuring the work of Atelier artists.

Atelier Slideshow

To celebrate the 40th session of the Photography Atelier, we’re hosting a special Atelier Reunion on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 5–7 PM at the Griffin Museum — and we’d love for you to join us! If you are a past member of the Atelier, we would love to hear from you.

We are creating a slideshow of alumni and instructors’ work to showcase during the event. You can RSVP and upload your image using the following form.
