New Horizons | Korean Contemporary Photography Artist Reception

May 9 @ 6:00 pm 8:00 pm

The Griffin Museum is pleased to celebrate curator Joanne Junga Yang‘s vision of Korean Contemporary photography in a special artist reception with many of the artists featured from New Horizons.

Join us Friday May 9th from 6 to 8pm to meet Joanne and the artists who have travelled from Korea to celebrate this unique view of culture and creativity.

The works of Ok Hyun Ahn, Sung Jiyeon, Seongyoun Koo, Anna Lim, Hyundoo Park, Soosik Lim and Sun Hi Zo are on the walls until June 29, 2025.

This exhibition examines the significance of Korean photography within the global discourse on photographic art, highlighting the diverse approaches artists have taken as they navigate the evolving landscape of the medium.

The featured artists have been instrumental in shaping contemporary Korean photography, transitioning from analog to digital practices while continuously pushing the boundaries of photographic expression.

Their work extends beyond representation, fostering a deeper engagement with photography as a conceptual and expressive medium.

New Horizons: Korean Contemporary Photography provides an in-depth look at the artistic and intellectual currents shaping contemporary Korean photography.

Through the works presented, audiences engage with the intersections of personal narratives and collective memory, shifting perspectives on identity and representation, and the evolving role of photography in illuminating both the visible and the unseen.

This exhibition challenges conventional ways of seeing, encouraging viewers to reconsider visual perception and engage with photography as a medium that shapes how we perceive and reimagine the world around us.
