BIO:

Crista Dix is the new Associate Director of the Griffin Museum of Photography. She is also the Founder and Director of wall space creative. Starting as a photographer, collector and lover of the visual image Crista decided to put down her camera and focus on artists who transcend the medium of photography and expand the ideas of photographic arts.

Her background in science, business and creative arts, has helped her create a gallery space that celebrates the artists’ vision. The gallery is focused on work that intersects art and science, emphasizing the “objectness” of photography. The artsts represented are craftspersons, working in analog or digital formats, using photography as an integral part of their work, that layer emotional stories with techniques and processes that enhance the visual experience. The gallery has gained an international reputation for finding and showcasing new artists and exposing new ideas. In 2016 the gallery moved to a new model of connecting artists with collectors. Crista began working as a private dealer focused on placing artists’ works in private and public collections.

Wall space created a charitable giving program called Life Support. In ten years Life Support worked with over 400 artists, donating over $80,000 to charitable foundations like Doctors Without Borders, Direct Relief and Habitat for Humanity.  Crista says that she is grateful that at a moment’s notice she is part of a creative community that can come together to support good works in the face of tragedies like earthquakes in Haiti, Japan and Puerto Rico.

Most recently, working with Guggenheim Fellow and represented gallery artist Carl Corey, and Adobe Lightroom specialist, Dan Gerber, wall space has created a new photography event, Big River Photographic Summit. In May of 2020, in the town of Red Wing, outside Minneapolis, the event will bring together 100 creative professionals for a weekend filled with seminars, lectures, workshops and portfolio reviews.

Ms. Dix has written essays about photography, introducing creative artists’ work to a broader community. She has been a member of numerous panels and discussions, juried creative competions and has participated in major portolio reviews across the country in cites like Houston, Portland, Los Angeles, Santa Fe and New Orleans.
