The Creative Control of Natural Light with Ossian Lindholm

June 27, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Taken from its Greek roots, the word “photography” literally means “Drawing with Light.” One of the biggest challenges facing nature photographers is not only capturing natural light but how to use that light to convey our very personal experience of a place.  No two sunrises and sunsets are the same!  Because the most beautiful natural light usually behaves unpredictably, this “unique” light situation is also a perfect (and fleeting) opportunity to take mesmerizing and meaningful photographs.

Since these precious moments of “the perfect light” happen so quickly, we as photographers must plan, prepare and predict what we need to do to capture the light. A photographer reaches camera mastery and can create photographs with the most impact when he intuitively knows what settings, or tight range of settings, to use to capture the essence of light.”

In this talk, renowned Argentinian nature photographer and documentary filmmaker Ossian Lindholm will uncover and demystify the basic skills of “drawing with light” and the advanced techniques needed to become a master of light. He will also give suggestions about gear, specific “capturing the light” settings and how and what tools to use to scout the best “light times” and locations.

Ossian Lindholm is a renowned nature photographer from Tucuman, Argentina.  Trained as an Agronomist, many years ago he turned his deep passion for nature to photography.  In his work as a photographer, teacher and documentary filmmaker, he is dedicated to capturing, preserving, conserving, sharing and sustaining the landscape, nature and culture of Argentina in its most pristine state.

Ossian has published five books, 15 calendars and he teaches photography courses throughout the year.  Since 1998 he has been leading groups of photographers and naturalists on photographic journeys throughout his native Argentina. Until 2015 has been the host of a very popular weekly nature TV documentary called Travesias Fotograficas. In each show, he hopes to educate and inspire people to love, protect and keep sacred the places where they live using use images, words and music to touch peoples’ emotional core. In 2010 he began his activity as a teacher in photography giving courses and workshops in Argentina.
