Hours and Admission

We look forward to seeing you here in Winchester!

Our hours are – Noon to 4 PM  – Tuesday through Sunday.  The museum is closed Monday.

We are closed the following holidays – 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

General admission is $9 for adults; $5 for seniors. Members and children under 12 are admitted free. Admission is free to all every Thursday, 2 to 4 p.m.We are part of the North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) group. NARM pass holders admission is free.

Winchester residents are free with a valid ID.

Walk-ins welcomed.  Museum Admission can be purchased in advance.

We want you to be safe and healthy during your visit. If you don’t feel well, please visit when you do feel healthy. Masks are welcome should you wish to wear one while in the museum. We follow the lead of the Town of Winchester, State of Massachusetts, FDC and CDC for COVID restrictions for all towns where a substantial Covid transmission rate is recorded. We have hand sanitizer available throughout the museum.

When are the member portfolio reviews scheduled?

We are pleased to offer a Member Portfolio Review to all current Members once a year.

Any active member of the Griffin Community can request a portfolio review with our Executive Director, Crista Dix. These reviews are free to all of our members one time per year.

If you request more than one review over the course of a year, there will be a fee. Nonmembers are welcomed to participate in a yearly review as new members, or with a fee.

Portfolio reviews take place via our Zoom platform, last 25 minutes and are individualized to the needs of the attendee. When you request your review, a Zoom link will be sent to you for your individual meeting date and time. If you would like an in person review, please let us know at the time of scheduling so that we can confirm that Crista will be available.

Things to think about when preparing for your review.

  • 25 minutes goes by quickly. Be prepared.
  • Have a presentation ready – 10 to 15 images in a slideshow, or presentation format. Your presentation can be built in Keynote, PDF, Powerpoint, or as a slide show from your Picture program.
  • Have questions ready for your review. What are the goals of your time during the review.
  • Be open to the reviewers responses. Grow from the experience.

Education Policies

Participant cancellation of a program/lecture/course will result in a refund only if notice of cancellation is given at least 2 weeks before the date of the event. No refunds will be granted if participant cancellation is given less than 2 weeks prior to the activity. Though the Griffin Museum of Photography will make every attempt to run programs as scheduled, the Museum reserves the right to cancel or postpone an event, program, or course at any time. If the Museum cancels a program, we will refund the participation fee to those who have pre-registered and pre-paid.

Members  receive free admission.
Seniors that are 65+ receive $5 admission.
General Admission is $9. 
Children 12 years and under receive free admission.
Students of member academic institutions with student ID receive free admission.

Winchester residents are free with a valid ID.

On Thursdays from 2 to 4pm Admission is FREE to all.

Card to Culture holders of a ConnectorCare, WIC or EBT card are admitted free of charge.

North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) pass holders are FREE with proof of membership.

Can the Griffin Museum of Photography Appraise your photograph?

We can not appraise your artwork or equipment. While we want to help you, we can not give you an appraisal of any artwork including photographs. We suggest that you refer to official appraisers who can perform the most accurate service for you.

Here are 3 associations that will help you find an appraiser that suits your artwork needs. If it is a photograph you want appraised make sure to ask for an appraiser of photographs. The Griffin Museum of Photography is directing you to these three organizations as a resource only. We do not endorse any appraiser and cannot be held responsible.

What is your policy for accepting proposals for exhibition?

We currently do not accept  proposals for exhibitions. We can’t handle proposals due to our limited resources. The Juried Exhibition, portfolio reviews local and national, calls for entry, member reviews, classes and research are our primary resource for scheduling our exhibitions.
